Help create the Whale Memorial

Support the project and be part of this unique and special work of art

Thanks to incredible support from people around the world, the Key Table – Part One of the Whale Memorial for South Georgia – has been created and installed at Grytviken.

Now, the Spirit Tables remain to be made: the powerful final elements which will celebrate the recent recovery of six of South Georgia’s great whale species, hunted to near-extinction during the whaling era.

Your help is needed to complete this unique memorial and to share this remarkable story. Help us commemorate the whales, celebrate their return to the island’s waters, and help protect them from future threats.

Sponsor a rivet right now to support South Georgia’s whales

You can sponsor a rivet, or a group of rivets, on one of the Spirit Tables to remember South Georgia’s lost whales and celebrate their recent recovery and return.

But becoming a sponsor is so much more than that. Each rivet sponsorship is a small but powerful pledge to protect the future of whales.

Choose your rivet sponsorship below to:

  • Complete this unique memorial at South Georgia so we never forget the harm we did to whales in the past, and how near we came to losing them
  • Inspire people around the world by telling the whales’ tale at South Georgia which powerfully shows that ecological recovery is always possible and that nature heals when given the chance,
  • Become part of South Georgia’s extraordinary, ongoing story of recovery, by funding whale research that will help us protect them from future threats.

Help create the Whale Memorial

£33.00

To sponsor a small rivet because the returning humpback whales’ beautiful and complex songs last up to 33 minutes – we’re so thankful to hear these melodies again in the bays of South Georgia.

£90.00

For a medium rivet because the fin whale has an average lifespan of 90 years – seeing these long living giants returning to the island after being the most persecuted species during the whaling era is incredibly inspiring.

£199.00

To sponsor a large rivet because the world’s largest whale, the blue whale, can weigh up to a staggering 199 tons – that’s equivalent to 398 grand pianos or 30 mature male African elephants!

In exchange for your support, we will allocate you your very own rivet, or rivets, on a Spirit Table and send you a digital certificate confirming your support of the Whale Memorial. Your rivet/s will become a part of this memorial and you’ll therefore have a permanent presence and legacy at South Georgia.
